Well a couple of weeks ago Claire started smiling. After even the most fussy and trying of days, one of her smiles wipes the slate clean. It’s amazing to see the effect her smiles have on us, especially Josh. She has a small smile with her mouth closed and then a really big smile with her mouth open. The big smile appears when we talk to Claire or when she lies on her activity mat and focuses on her giraffe. We’re not sure why the giraffe is her favorite dangly animal, but he definitely gets the most attention! Unfortunately, so far her bigger smile goes into hiding when the camera comes around. Most of the time bringing out the camera results in furrowed brows and a look of confusion, but I have been lucky enough over the past week or two to catch some small smiles. These photos aren’t the best, but I feel confident that soon we will catch the thing that we have been hunting for on camera, if only by wearing her down with all of the picture-taking. Here is Claire’s smile making its timid debut.

Sorry for the blur on the last photo. It’s surprisingly difficult to support a head, encourage a smile, and be a tripod.
