Diaper Cake!

Joan's precious diaper cake!

This weekend was great fun!  Joan (one of my dearest friends) and Josh’s mom (Donna) threw us a baby shower!  The shower was at our house, so it was pretty fun to have friends and family come over to see it since most of them never get out this way.  We played the Price is Right, complete with theme song and the baby food tasting game.  I figured I have enough baby food in my future, so I didn’t participate (plus I didn’t want to win the prizes accidentally and take the fun away from the guests).

There was a lot of fun and a lot of good food!  I think Josh ended up being pretty excited that the shower was at our house since he and John got to raid the food line and then go back into the study and watch football.  If you have read any of my previous baby shower posts then you know the food is a large part of my enjoyment of showers.  By the way - Costco makes a really great chicken salad.  It’s not a sweet one (I like both sweet ones and savory ones), but it goes great on croissants!  I was so excited to see it at the shower since I’m on the no lunch meat pregnancy diet.  I’m just hoping the doctor has a little understanding for me at my appointment this week.  I may have put on a few extra this time!

Now Josh and I are working on Thanksgiving preparation!  I’m trying to take things slow and take time to put my very swollen feet up, but our schedule is packed with errands to run or holiday events to go to over the next couple of months.  I feel like we are running out of time to get everything ready for Claire.  I have heard that the last few weeks of pregnancy go by slowly, so I’m counting on that time to get things done and put away in the nursery.

The service at church today was particularly good for this very thing, though.  We had a service that was completely worship and prayer with different stations you could go to for prayer, communion, and a few other things.  There were large boards up all over the sanctuary where you could go and write something you were thankful to God for (Josh and I thanked God for our sweet baby Claire and for the example of our wonderful parents).  They also had baskets at the feet of two crosses where you could write down something you’ve been holding onto to toss into the basket.  Then down at the front of the church they had candles that you could go light for someone you have been praying for.  The service was really special to me as I was reminded to keep praying because our God is mighty to save and can do anything!  My heart was so thankful for Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross as Josh and I took communion.  The point of the service was to take time out and be reminded that we worship with our lives, not with just one hour every week.  We should be worshiping by continuing to pray for the specific needs of others, by making love sacrifices and showing kindness to someone (family member, friend) even when we don’t feel like it.  The pastor said that Thanksgiving shouldn’t be something we just rush through to get to the hustle and bustle of commercial Christmas, but it should be a time when you can prepare your heart to be giving thanks and praise for the blessings the Lord has given you and the blessing of Jesus himself whose birth we celebrate at Christmas!

I know that was long, but I really feel like God used that service to bring me into focus on things I have been rushing past in the last few months.  Though there is a lot to do and a lot to be excited about, I need to take the time to be still and really worship God.  I just wanted to share that!

I put the pics of the baby shower up on Flickr, so if you are interested you can take a look.
